Church of Ireland / Methodist Covenant. Progress on the church unity front always seems infuriatingly slow. However, it is good to be able to draw attention to one significant recent development. In 2002 the Church of Ireland and the Methodist Church in Ireland signed a covenant committing each to work and worship together as much as possible from now one. Unity is the ultimate goal. The text of the covenant is available on line.

Also of great importance is the 1992 Poorvoo Agreement between the Irish and British Anglican Churches and the Nordic and Baltic Lutheran Churches. Many people still do not realise that these eleven* national churches are now in full communion. Ordained clergy from the Poorvoo Lutheran churches already are working in parishes in Ireland. You need go no further than the map on the site's home page to realise the significance of the Poorvoo (Finland) agreement.

*Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania.
